rode my (rented) bicycle to work this morning
It was quite cold. Not exactly sure of the temperature, but in the teens. There were some parts of the sidewalk completely covered in a thin sheet of ice. I opted to ride over the crunchy frozen grass, instead. Five layers on top (rain jacket to stop wind chill, jacket, wool sweater, long and short sleeve tshirts) seems to work. My riding glove are not good enough for this cold. They let through too much air, but the ride is not long.

Looks like it would have been 17 or 18 when you were riding according to the closet weather station.
